Abstract

The involvement of international organizations, such as UNESCO, is one of the main keys to raising globalawareness of the need for media and information literacy, as well as for the orientation of global policiesin the different countries. A review is made of the main milestones of this institution linked to media andinformation literacy in the last forty years. It also reviews the main strategies and various initiatives it iscurrently developing, which have positively boosted its involvement through the search for synergies andinternational cooperation.
