La Alcazaba de Medina Shaltîshanálisis arqueológico e interpretación patrimonial en el contexto de la Ría de Huelva

The study we present is based on two lines of research. First, an unprecedented archaeological analysis in which the results obtained in the archaeological intervention carried out at the Alcazaba de Saltés in 2014-2015 are exposed and interpreted. The second line of research focuses on a critical analysis of the current state of the archaeological site of Medina Shaltîsh from a diachronic perspective of heritage interpretation and the administrative management of the archaeological site. As far as archaeological analysis is concerned, in the present work we carried out an exhaustive archaeological study of the Alcazaba de Saltés, according to the results obtained in the 2014 intervention. This intervention would report numerous archaeological data unknown to date to the scientific community. New information on, for example, the morphology of the Alcazaba, its dimensions, the construction systems, its structural components, etc. We highlight in this sense the discovery of the main accesses of the fortification: the "Puerta de la Medina" and the “Puerta de la Ría". As regards the methodology used in the present study, the study is based on conventional stratigraphic analysis and paramental archaeological analysis of all the archaeological evidence intervened. In a complementary way, the research is completed with the analysis of the archaeological materials obtained in the 2014 intervention. Through all this we establish the chronocultural sequence of the whole, its interpretation and diachronic and synchronous analysis. Likewise, the results of the archaeological action reveal the monumental character of the Alcazaba de Saltés, as well as the great potential that the fortification presents for the development of future archaeological interventions of research and enhancement. Finally, as far as the heritage research line is concerned, we cannot forget that the Alcazaba is part of the archaeological site of Medina Shaltîsh. And that is why we carry out a critical analysis of the current reality of the deposit. Its conservation status, the administrative abandonment it presents, or the lack of scientific research projects currently on the archaeological site. It is for this reason that we analyze and expose its future possibilities of patrimonial intervention in matters of Research, Value Creation and Social Diffusion. From the present work we contribute, from our technical experience, the solutions that we consider will eliminate in the short term the endemic factors that currently have a negative impact on the place. In order to build, on the basis of the specific solutions we propose, the future of the Research and Dissemination of its Cultural Values of the archaeological site. We are committed to a change in the administrative management model of the site that contemplates the Declaration of the "Island of Saltés Archaeological Complex" and for the use of mixed financing solutions for the effective development of the planning of actions that we propose and that the archaeological site requires.
