Abstract
This paper is aimed at specifying the production technology and estimating technical efficiency of container terminals of Spain. This paper uses a 2014 cross section sample of 18 Spanish container terminals using economic and technical data from Observatorio de Servicios Portuarios and other data sources. This paper concludes that the technology of production is mainly explained by nfrastructure, machinery and port stowage; and that there is inefficiency according hypothesis tests. Results show that technical efficiency of this sector is 72% with an standard deviation of 14%.
