Zusammenfassung
The optimum technique for measuring blood pressure (BP) is still the object of controversy. For decades, the procedure of reference was measurement during a visit to the practice by doctors or nurses using a mercury sphygmomanometer. However, several studies have shown that the BP measured by healthcare staff at the practice is often not representative of the normal BP of the individual outside the healthcare environment. This work hopes to present the indications of outpatient monitoring of blood pressure (OMBP) in patients considered as hypertense, monitoring methods: techniques for measuring it, characteristics of the blood pressure reading obtained, the variability of blood pressure and side effects of some of the methods. Similarly, white coat or office hypertension and the applicability of OMBP to this type of hypertension will be explored in more detail.
