19th century Spanish fiction has been characterized as a male space; according to the traditional literary about the era, men are the writers mainly recognized by critics in developing the Realism and Romantic movements. However, the compilation of the literary production of the time shows that writing also became a place where women found their most genuine inspiration. In addition to 19th-century Spanish women writers using the stylistic traditions of their contemporaneous writers, it also transformed into a new and personal space where they could develop their own voice, in order to subvert and to question social norms. However, only a few of them even appear as a footnote in the literary anthologies currently used.By analyzing some of the works of Carolina Coronado, Rosalía de Castro, Emilia Pardo Bazán or Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda, it will be demonstrated that the transgressive characters and the way they are used in the novels produces new subjects that subvert imposed social norms. Furthermore, the “I” of the feminine poetic voice is also used as a subversive element. These new transgressive entities question the "marginal" subjects of the moment and contribute to the creation and / or claim of a new idea of women’s subjectivity. Through this line of inquiry, the problem of gender inequality in the literary sphere will be questioned and demand the recognition of this group of "isolated" and in many cases "erased " women writers.
