Abstract

What is the purpose of job guidance in the actual socioeconomic scenario? What role does it play in the context of employment policies and services? What is employability? What characteristics does a job guidance process have? And do the technical guidance staff have a specific profile and competencies? What factors are directly related to employment and unemployment? Throughout this introductory chapter, answers to these questions will be offered in a simple, didactic and practical way. we will begin by exposing the importance of career orientation in a labor market and a society that is undergoing profound and dizzying transformations. To do this, we will reflect on «what we mean» when we talk about guiding people looking for work. The scientific-technical foundation of work processes and tools in job guidance will be addressed, assuming that it is a «Young» social technology with an interdisciplinary scope, and that has built an important set of tools, programs or systems from practice. Next, the most relevant aspects of the career guidance process will be briefly discussed, as an introductory proposal that will be developed in depth in the next chapters of this manual. The definition of the ideal professional profile in guidance Will also be analyzed along these lines. This first chapter Will end by reviewing the importance of conceptually reconsidering employability and the factors that modulate the job search in people who attend counseling.
