Abstract

Job satisfaction is a factor that brings motivation and commitment to professional performance. Given the importance of the satisfacion of educational agents for the proper running of the schools as institutions, in this research we study job satisfaction of principals in secondary education. For that purpose, a secondary analysis is carried out in a Spanish sample (n=198) that participated in the last edition of the Teaching and Learning International Survey, promoted by the OECD. A satisfaction index was designed by an analysis of main components for categorical data, afterwards we explored the relation between principals’ satisfaction and the variables related to the exercise of the role. The analyzes were based on the calculation of correlation measures. The results show a greater satisfaction of principals in schools with a collaborative culture, where they exercise a distributed leadership and when they collaborate with directors of other centers. Based on the results, there have been made some proposals to favor satisfaction in the exercise of the school management.
