This paper shows that the selection and use of textbooks for Maths lessons (in the context of the sample teachers studied) is made from the framework of their own perspectives.This research has been carried out in two phases.The first stage, of exploratory nature,permitted the determination of the criteria of selection and use of text books within 120 randomly picked practicing teachers from among the teaching population of the city (state management schools in Buenos Aires city, with 12-14 years students), as well as knowing which was the book that was mostly recommended to students. In the second phase of the research, based on a qualitative methodology, with a descriptive nature and with interpretive intentions, the case of three mathematics teachers was analyzed regarding the selection and use of textbooks,their students¿ value judgements and the analysis of the textbooks themselves
