Abstract
This project presents the results of the shear strength in soil samples belonging to the "Huelva-Bonares sands" Formations, which are made of sandy-silty materials. These materials cause the largest topographical slopes of the city, known as "Cabezos de Huelva". Some identification and sample status tests have been carried out, and the fracture resistance has been calculated by drained Direct Shear tests.Since the soils are overconsolidated, normal stresses above and below the Preconsolidated Pressure (Pc’) have been used in the Direct Shear tests to determine the Cohesion (C’) and the Angle of internal friction (Ø’). This is a mechanical behaviour limit of the soils that must be considered in the sliding stability researches in the "cabezos" of the city. This Pc’ has been determined by laboratory consolidation tests and the lithostatic pressure that the overlying geological materials produce.
