The present study analyzes the relationship among the technical efficiency of European health systems andthe lifestyles of the population of each country, in terms of eating habits, physical activity and tobaccoconsumption. The study extends to the Member States of the EU-28. The data come from the Eurostat onlinedatabase and correspond to the years 2013, 2014 and 2015. Data Envelopment Analysis, DEA-bootstrap,cluster analysis, local frontiers, metafrontier and Malmquist index are calculated between 2013 and 2015.Lifestyle analysis showed that, on average, higher efficiency in health systems was associated with lifestylescharacterized by healthier habits. The clustering of the group of countries according to lifestyle implied achange in the health production function, but it did not greatly alter the comparative efficiency of thecountries. The longitudinal study evaluates the technological and efficiency changes between 2013 and2015 and contrasts the stability of the conclusions in the period.Finally, strategies to achieve changes in the lifestyle of countries are suggested to determine efficiencyimprovements in health systems managements.
