Abstract

This chapter deals with the influence that space and time have on organization and educational practice. Their role, whether we are aware it or not, conditions the way in which the school presents itself as a collective, social group and community and the way in which it organizes teaching-learning processes. It affects, therefore, the relationships that ape built, the processes that are promoted and the results that are achieved. The school spaces and times draw, thus, the daily life of the educational centers and the opportunities for the meeting, relationship, participation development and learning of the members of the educational community that inhabit them. For this, first, the conceptions that prevail around school times and spaces are analyzed, the consequences that they can generate in educational practice, the options that teachers must make decisions about them and some keys and proposals that they are useful for advancing in the configuration of more open, flexible, participatory, and schools and pedagogical organizations. In short, we try to be aware of the chains, but also of the wings that spaces and times can generate for change and educational improvement.
