Abstract

The integration of videos and podcasts represents a vital tool in enhancing the teaching-learning synergy across various academic levels. Specifically, videos serve as a powerful medium to clarify complex concepts that may be challenging to grasp in a traditional classroom setting. Both videos and podcasts have the potential to pique students’ curiosity and bolster their motivation, which are crucial for stimulating effective learning. Additionally, this approach can foster positive affective and cognitive attitudes, thereby improving study habits [Jiang 2023; Kay 2012]. This study aimed to explore the impact of videos and podcasts on student success rates in the subject of Fundamentals of Chemistry, part of the Agricultural Engineering Degree at the University of Huelva, Spain, with 52 students participating in the f irst quarter of 2021/2022. Data were collected through questionnaires. The findings reveal a significant correlation between student attitudes, pedagogical strategies, and academic success. The results are promising, indicating that students exhibited positive attitudes throughout the course and increased classroom participation. Students reported that videos and podcasts enhanced their comprehension of Chemistry, making the subject more engaging. For instance, videos were particularly effective in illustrating molecular structures in both 2D and 3D. These insights are valuable for educators at all levels, suggesting a need to transform teaching practices and methodologies to strengthen the teaching-learning synergy. Recommendations include adopting pedagogical tools such as simulation programs and interactive activities to demystify abstract chemistry concepts. Moreover, careful selection of the quality and design of videos and podcasts is strongly advised for optimal educational impact [Adi 2022; Rime 2023]
