Given the difficulties of 15 year-old students in applying their knowledge and basic mathematical skills in real lite situations, a fact documented in severa! reports of OECD 1 PISA, we start from the question about what opportunities to learn (OTL) do we offer to our students and, through two case studies, we try to understand how they relate to their mathematics literacy (CM). Hence, we develop and propase a Model OTL-CM, adapted to the observed reality, which seeks to describe, explain and predict the phenomena ofteaching and learning, in terms of certain OTL (that teachers offer in their classrooms) can foster the development of certain CM.
